Pool Renovations: Pool Resprays & Refurbishments

Revitalise your pool with an expert fibreglass respray.

We are specialists in all aspects of swimming pool renovation for residential, commercial, hotel and school pools.

Fibreglass pool resurfacing is a cost-effective alternative to pool replacement. If your existing pool surface is deteriorating, has cracks or other issues, then a new fibreglass surface will provide you with years’ more enjoyment. Our team will prepare the existing mould ready to accept a new fibreglass surface, repair any surface damage, replace lights and waterline tiles if required and fibreglass onsite in the colour of your choice - providing you with a non-porous, smooth, easy-clean surface with remarkably improved structural integrity.

We respray and refurbish all types of existing pools including concrete and can also change your pool water from chlorine to salt or freshwater, change heating to a heat pump or solar, or upgrade any part of your pool sanitation, filtration or heating system.

We can also upgrade or replace pool covers, retrofit swim jets, add in features such as lighting or waterfalls and upgrade your pool surrounds.

Breathe life back into an outdated pool and transform your outdoor space with a makeover that will ensure your swimming pool can be enjoyed for many more years to come.

Pool System Upgrades

Transform your swimming experience with an upgrade to your pool filtration or sanitation system. Most New Zealand pools started out with heavily chlorinated water leaving swimmers with sore eyes and irritated skin. Water technology now offers irritation-free options such as freshwater or low-salt / mineral, vastly reducing your exposure to these harmful chemicals. We are experts in pump shed upgrades and can easily include this in our renovation process.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • There are 3 key signs that your pool may need resurfacing:

    1. Osmosis

Osmosis presents itself as blisters or bumps on the pool’s surface. These can vary in size and will eventually crack leaving black or brown marks on the pool surface. Algae formation (black algae) will often develop around these cracks leading to less than perfect swimming conditions for you and your family.

    2. Cracks

Hairline cracks may appear as a sign of ageing, or as the result of your pool shell incurring pressure that exceeds its ability to flex with the earth’s surface. Severe cracks may compromise your pool’s structural stability and cause leaks.

    3. Surface colour change

Direct exposure of sun rays and incorrect chemical treatment of water can lead to colour deterioration of your pool surface colour. Colour may start fading, and on fibreglass pools can leave behind a white flaky (sometimes described as ‘chalky’) surface. Regular pool maintenance, water testing and water treatment is the most effective way to ensure you get the most from your pool surface.

If you suspect your pool surface may be deteriorating and in need of a resurface, get in touch with us first and a member of our team will visit to make an assessment on the issue and provide you with an idea of what is required to bring your pool back to life.

DO NOT EMPTY YOUR POOL without first contacting us.

  • Both swimming pool renovation methods have their merits, however the best choice by far in terms of adding value to your pool is fibreglass resurfacing.

    Longevity

Pool paint needs to be reapplied every 5 – 7 years, meaning you will need to empty your pool and undergo resurfacing much more frequently. Additionally, there is an inherent risk when emptying all swimming pools because of ground or hydrostatic pressures which can lift the pool out of the ground – not ideal.

Fibreglass resurfacing on the other hand has an extremely long lifespan and you should expect anywhere from 20 – 30 years from your investment.

    Appearance

Pool paint will fade much quicker than fibreglass leaving your pool looking dull and lifeless. And if not maintained correctly, pool paint can turn chalky and hazy due to materials breaking down in your pool, leaving a chalky residue in the pool water.

Fibreglass comes in a huge range of colours and with well-maintained water will continue to look as-new for many years after resurfacing.

    Added benefits

Fibreglass is extremely strong, hard-wearing, durable and has flexural strength you won’t find in any other pool surface. With superior resistance to water erosion and chemical interaction, fibreglass resurfacing is by far the better option if you are looking for long-term results and return on your investment.

Fibreglass is also a natural insulator, resulting in a warmer pool and longer swim season. Add to this a finished surface that is gentle on feet and non-porous and you have the ultimate resurfacing method.

Pool paint is purely aesthetic and will not add any structural integrity or insulation to your pool.

    Cost

Whilst your up-front investment for fibreglass resurfacing is initially more than repainting, you are assured of less frequent recurring expenses, risk of things going wrong and a far greater lifespan from your investment.

  • Depending on the amount of remedial work required, a resurfacing project will generally take between 2 - 3 weeks.

  • Firstly, we will construct a large tent over the entire pool to protect against weather and overspray of fibreglass - this allows us to work throughout the seasons regardless of the weather.

We then prepare the surface to accept the new fibreglass surface and undergo any remedial work that may be required.

We then fibreglass onsite, covering the entire pool with top-quality vinyl ester resin, a coat of premium coat, followed by flow coat in the colour of your choice.

If we are upgrading any of your pool system or replacing tiles, we will incorporate this into our project timeframe.

Once completed we will arrange for your pool to be refilled ready for you to dive in!

Our service doesn’t finish there and if you would like support with your pool care and maintenance we offer ongoing servicing through our Pool Care Programme.
